Notes by Andrius Kulikauskas about Jere Northrop's ideas.

Jere Northrop

Relational Symmetry Paradigm

  • Self relation. A system related to itself. (Or perhaps instead: A relation of a system to itself)
  • Linear relation. A relation between two systems.
  • Relational relation. A relation between a system and a relation relating other systems to each other.
  • Inter-relational relation. A relation interrelating other relations between systems.

The pictures strike me as expressing the onesome, twosome, threesome, foursome. The emphasis is on the "relations" which are the shifts between perspectives. The threesome is, in my understanding, cyclical in that the relation between systems is identified with a perspective. In my understanding, the onesome could include a relation between the perspective and itself, much as a self-assertion, or as the means by which the conceptions of the onesome relate everything with itself. The conceptions of the divisions could be ways of making sense of the relations. The nullsome could be a relation without a system? Note that there are four conceptions of the nullsome.
