Andrius Kulikauskas: A few days ago I received a letter from Andrius-J, who is serving time at the Alytus Correctional Institute. I have gone there for several years to support independent thinkers, including my friend Silvijus Pokštas, who is now free and lives in Kaunas. At my request, Andrius-J spoke with inmates who are supporters of Russia to try to understand their perspective. He sent me remarks by seven people. I translate the six answers he sent me. The question was, "Are you in favor of the war in Ukraine? What kind of end to the war do you want?" Jevenij: I support the Russians. I want them to win. But I don't want the war to become nuclear becaus that will affect me and probably nobody will be left alive. Saulius: I support the Russians because they started this war not without a reason. America provoked Russia to attack Ukraine and take back its lands. I want the following end to the war - Ukraine surrenders and gives to Russia the lands which belong to it. Anonymous: I support the Russians. I am waiting for the day when Russia finally uses nuclear weapons. The time has long come for World War III. Anonymous: I support Russians. Ukraine is simply dancing to the tune of America and NATO. [Lithuanian] television only shows propaganda. Actually, Russians are trying to liberate the Ukrainian people and I expect that they will succeed. Anonymous: I support Russians. Putin is acting correctly. He does not listen to others and has his own opinion. If not America and NATO, then the war would have ended long ago and there would be many fewer victims. Ukraine needs to surrender promptly so that there would not be more victims. Anonymous: I support Russians and I want the war to end soon. For that to happen, Ukraine must surrender to Russia, give back Russia its lands and stay neutral as regards NATO. |
